We’re Back Because They Are

September 22, 2009

We can’t be sure why took our recent spontaneous hiatus from our beloved ATM.  We have been doing some major traveling (with actually paid work gigs) and maybe the trains, planes, and automobiles have gotten in our way of music love.  We couldn’t even have been bothered to follow the Kayne fiasco and report our expert thoughts.  We don’t know what has gotten into us.

Whatever the issue, we’re back and it’s all thanks to the Fellini’s on Ponce (stalk us alert!).  It was there, between the bouts of rain yesterday, that I saw the Masquerade poster and the big announcement that The Get Up Kids would be playing on November 11 in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the album “something to write home about.”  Tickets are on sale now.  I thought to myself, if I would have missed that show (hell, I didn’t even know that they were back!), my 16 year old self would never forgive me.  So the blog is back, bitches.  Because what else have I missed in the 21 days since I’ve been gone?! I don’t know, you tell me….

Motley Crue After Party with Tommy Lee and Ludacris

August 21, 2009

Putting the battles aside (ahem, you do remember Battle Ground Earth, right?), Tommy Lee and Ludacris team up again to throw a Motley Crue after party at STRAITS on Saturday, August 29.  Now we know after parties AND we know this duo (no seriously, we hung with the pair when they were shooting the ATL leg of their show), so we’re pretty sure this party will be well worth the $30 per person cover charge.  All you have to do is RSVP here.

And there might even be an extra rock star thrown on the guest list.  We’re not sure if Tommy Lee’s hand will be healed before his Atlanta show (who ever said sparklers weren’t dangerous?!), but if it’s not Morgan Rose of Sevendust will be filling in on drums and we’re pretty sure that means at the after party, too.

250 free songs from Last.fm

August 21, 2009

Last.fm isn’t going to let iTunes have all the free music give away fun. Currently, the online music mecca is giving away a library of 250 songs.  They have a little bit of everything including Moby, Nine Inch Nails, Portugal. The Man, Sufjan Stevens, and You, Me, and Everyone We Know.  We suggest that you, me and everyone you know go ahead and start downloading!

See O.A.R. for free tonight!

August 21, 2009

You have to act fast to take part of this sweet Dave FM deal!  Want to see O.A.R. (and more importantly, Brett Dennen!!) for free tonight at Wireless Amphitheatre? Or perhaps Edwin McCain or the Pet Shop Boys?  All you have to do is bring 10 canned goods (we’re pretty sure you have some uneaten black beans in the pantry) to the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce today from noon – 2pm and swap them out for a pair of concert tickets (while supplies last, that is!) to one of the above upcoming shows!

Check out the Dave FM website for a list of their greatest food needs and more details!

Live Nation’s Twitter Scavenger Hunt

August 18, 2009

We’ve been trying to give you subtle hints, but in case you haven’t picked up on them, we’re just going to go ahead and say it:  we think you should have a Twitter account.  And we think you should follow us @musicATL. Phew, now that that’s out of the way, you can read on…

Live Nation wants to give away more free concert tickets, but this time they’re going to make you work for it. Tomorrow, August 19, Live Nation is hosting an all day Twitter Scavenger Hunt and one grand prize winner will receive a season-long Lawn Pass good for every show next summer in their city. Plus everyone who plays will receive a $10 lawn ticket for select shows this summer.

You’ll need to follow @livenation and @livenationatl and be in front of your computer most of the day. Click here for the official rules.

Half Priced Chicago Tickets

August 18, 2009

A Broadway post you ask? Well, we love it, it’s music, so there! We’re not the biggest fans of Chicago’s stage production (though we could sing it in its entirety in our sleep), we don’t think we could miss out on seeing Jerry Springer in the lead role (he’s OUR hometown hero!)  The show will be at the Fox Theatre from September 8 – September 13, but for those wanting to see it September 8 or September 9, tickets can be yours for half price. Just walk up to the ticket counter and ask for the half priced Chicago tickets. Easy as that! And you don’t even need to chant, “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.”  Actually, we ask that you don’t do that at all.

Collective Soul & Drivin n Cryin play free shows

August 18, 2009

Not a sports fan? You will be now. On September 5, Atlanta’s own Collective Soul and Drivin n Cryin will play a free show in Centennial Park in honor of ESPN’s College Game Day.  We’re not sure why Alabama and Virginia Tech are playing at the Georgia Dome…but that’s what we’re in the music biz. Details are still being worked out, but shows are rumored to be happening at 1:30pm and 3:45pm.

If that’s not enough Drivin n Cryin for you, caravan on over to Criminal Records for their free, live in-store performance happening at 7pm.  We were wrong. They’re playing at Criminal Records on September 29.  Last time we post BEFORE coffee. (Thanks, Ken for the heads up!)
